To satisfy competency 10 Maintaining performance, learning and teaching in WPBA we have just been advised trainees should undertake the writing up of a significant event and undertake a practice based audit . Both of these should be shared with you as their trainer. More details to follow.
The guidance for the CSA is that trainees are definitely recommended to have had 6 months of General Practice experience before undertaking it. Whilst the college also recommends that trainees have had 6 months in general practice before sitting the AKT (as there are questions on general practice organisation and administration) it is recognised that candidates may wish to undertake the AKT early in their GP year. It is not advised they sit the AKT before entering general practice. We would encourage you to keep reviewing the RCGP website (Hyperlinked) where there is ever more information being posted to help support the nMRCGP.
Please note we have updated the KSS GP Deanery web site with new information regarding GP Speciality training programme in Transition
the e-Portfolio
The e Portfolio is how GP speciality trainees (GPStRs) will document their learning and assessments, which will count towards their membership exam. It is web based and password protected.
The GPStR is responsible for keeping the portfolio up to date, with input from the educational supervisor. The portfolio can be used to log details of tutorials and other learning encounters - how much data the trainees enter will vary form individual to individual but the portfolio should been seen as supporting evidence of educational planning and progression towards PDP learning outcomes as well as tracking assessments. The e-portfolio can be used to map learning to the GP curriculum. The e portfolio will have access to learning resources and a messaging service.
The Deanery is complying a data base of trainers which will be sent to the College. They will give you your username and password. The Deanery will then be able to link you up, within the e-Portfolio, with your trainees in ST1 ST2 and ST3 (providing they have registered at the College)
Certain operational functions are yet to be clarified so again it is important to review the college website and we will offer further guidance as it becomes available.
Confidentiality, Consent and the nMRCGP
The workplace based assessment component of the nMRCGP requires a GPStR to be assessed using case based discussion (CbD) and the consultation observation tool (COT) which can be done using a video or live observation.
